Fresh from competing at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, Team B&Q’s slalom canoeist Campbell Walsh (Scotland/Nottingham) popped into his local B&Q store last week (28 August) to share his Olympic experiences with some of the store employees.
A disappointed Campbell comments:
“Being at the Games was simply great! Although I was a little disappointed with my result, it was a really tough course but all good experience. The support I have had from B&Q over the years has been invaluable and it was really nice to be in store to share my experience of the Beijing Olympics with some B&Q employees.”
B&Q is an official partner to the BOA and has been supporting athletes since the Athens 2004 Olympic Games. To bring its partnership to life the company created its own squad of athletes, Team B&Q, which consists of Olympians and Paralympians who promote B&Q’s ‘Can do’ ethos at B&Q stores and community events and who also mentor aspiring Olympians and Paralympians who work in B&Q stores around the country, all of whom were aiming to compete in Beijing this summer.
Claire Hunter Goodson, operations manager at B&Q Nottingham, commented:
“It was a pleasure to have Campbell come into our store. Over the years Campbell has achieved some amazing results, notably becoming European champion in April of this year and winning a silver medal in Athens back in 2004. It was great to hear his stories and hopes for the future. He told us all about his sporting achievements which I hope will have helped motivate everyone here to be a bit more active in their day to day lives.”
